What is PPC?
Paid Search marketing goes under a number of names: Pay Per Click (PPC), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Sponsored Online Listing etc.
Paid Search marketing consists of companies advertising within the sponsored link section of search engines (usually placed at the top and left hand side of the result page) paying either once a user clicks on a specific ad (Pay Per Click – PPC) or less frequently when the ad is displayed (Cost Per Thousand – CPM) or even when a phone call is generated in which case it is called Pay Per Call.
Therefore it is not 100% correct referring to paid search as pay per click as the latter is not the only option for buying presence and responses on the search engines.
The most effective online advertising method
Pay Per Click (PPC) is considered as the most cost effective and relevant advertising tool online, with Google AdWords leading the way. The Practical eCommerce survey in 2009 revealed that 79.3% of the respondents regard PPC advertisement to be a successful way of increasing sales, whereas 27.9% consider this type of advertising as very effective. PPC is one of the most favoured means for both closing sales and driving web-traffic.
